PRIVATE BENJAMIN was far ahead of its time in its depiction of a woman who gives up men and her privileged life for a career. Goldie Hawn's Oscar-nominated performance is deceptive, as it begins ditsy and silly but turns into something far more sophisticated and moving, and Eileen Brennan's tragicomic performance (also Oscar-nominated) nearly steals the show.
