THE EXORCIST 50th Anniversary

One of the few horror films ever nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, THE EXORCIST is a taboo-smashing, expertly-crafted chiller. The result of the unholy collaboration between director William Friedkin, screenwriter/author William Peter Blatty, an ace crafts team, and an astonishing cast that includes Ellen Burstyn, Linda Blair, Max Von Sydow, and Jason Miller, among others, THE EXORCIST raised the bar for an oft-maligned genre that, until then, was rarely taken seriously by both critics and the general public. And, 50 years on, THE EXORCIST has lost none of its ability to terrify.

Ellen Burstyn is one of a handful of actors who has won the "Triple Crown of Acting": in her case, an Oscar, a Tony, and two Primetime Emmy Awards. A six-time Oscar-nominee, she is best known for her performances in such classic films as THE LAST PICTURE SHOW, THE EXORCIST, ALICE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE, SAME TIME, NEXT YEAR, RESURRECTION, and REQUIEM FOR A DREAM. Burstyn was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame for her stage work in 2013.
