Maverick filmmaker Jacques Audiard returned to the director’s chair this year with EMILIA PÉREZ which tells the story of a Mexican drug lord who, with the help of a kind lawyer, decides to leave their violent past behind and become their true self by transitioning into Emilia Pérez. It’s a crime thriller and a family drama…and a musical. With committed performances from its entire cast including Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, and Adriana Paz, who all shared the Cannes Best Actress Prize, EMILIA PÉREZ proves to be a humane, touching work that’s further electrified by Audiard’s longtime editor, Juliette Welfling. EMILIA PÉREZ is a film that walks several fine lines, pulling off a cinematic tightrope act that ranks as one of 2024’s most audacious and successful achievements.

Juliette Welfling is a film editor best known for her collaborations with Jacques Audiard on all of his features including EMILIA PÉREZ, THE SISTERS BROTHERS, DHEEPAN, RUST AND BONE, and A PROPHET. Additionally, she cut such acclaimed films as THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY (Oscar nom), THE PAST, and THE HUNGER GAMES, among many others.
