PH Cult Selects: AMERICAN PSYCHO 25th Anniversary

When Bret Easton Ellis’ controversial novel, AMERICAN PSYCHO, was adapted for the screen by director/co-writer Mary Harron, audiences and critics didn’t quite know what to make of it. Brutally violent, darkly hilarious, and purposefully provocative, this satire of ‘80s greed has continued to find an increasingly appreciative audience as its story has begun to feel disturbingly relevant once again. And there’s no denying that much of this film’s staying power is due to Christian Bale’s devilishly charismatic performance as serial killer Patrick Bateman, a performance that still stands out in a career full of greats.
