Winner of the Academy Award for Best Picture, SPOTLIGHT is a de-sensationalized, rigorous, and thoroughly engrossing chronicle of the Boston Globe’s investigation into the Catholic Church’s history of hiding the sexual abuse of children. Like director/co-writer Tom McCarthy’s other films, SPOTLIGHT feels intimate and personal, and the performances he elicits out of his ensemble led by Mark Ruffalo, Bryan D’Arcy James, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber, John Slattery, Stanley Tucci, and Michael Keaton are extraordinary. Building with a quiet indignation that culminates in an earth-shaking series of stories, SPOTLIGHT is one of the rare films that’s as monumental as its subject.
Tom McCarthy is a filmmaker and actor best known for directing and writing/co-writing THE STATION AGENT, THE VISITOR, WIN WIN, and SPOTLIGHT, among many others. For SPOTLIGHT, he won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and was nominated for Best Director, and as a storywriter UP, he was nominated for Best Original Screenplay.
